Private Pay & Insurance Information

At Holding Space Counseling, we believe therapy works best when it’s thoughtful, flexible, and centered on you. We partner with Lyra to provide high-quality mental health care for eligible employees, and appointments can be scheduled either through our website or through Lyra’s client portal.

Holding Space Counseling is a private pay practice, meaning we do not accept insurance directly. If you’d like to seek reimbursement from your insurance company, we’re happy to provide a superbill upon request. We also understand that finances can be a concern—please feel free to ask about financial hardship rates, as limited sliding scale and pro bono openings may be available.

Why We Choose a Private Pay Model

Many clients ask why we don’t accept insurance, and the answer is simple: private pay allows us to offer care that is more personal, flexible, and protected.

Here are some of the ways private pay can benefit you:

  • Your privacy comes first
When you pay privately, your therapy information is not shared with insurance companies, allowing for greater confidentiality and peace of mind.

  • No diagnosis required
Insurance companies often require a mental health diagnosis to approve care. Private pay means you can receive support without placing a diagnosis in your medical record unless it feels clinically appropriate and helpful.

  • Care tailored to your needs
Together, we decide how often to meet, how long therapy continues, and what goals feel most meaningful—without session limits, required authorizations, or outside restrictions.

  • Freedom to focus on growth, not just symptoms
Insurance coverage often prioritizes symptom reduction. Private pay allows space for deeper work, prevention, and long-term support—even when things are feeling more stable.

  • A more grounded therapeutic experience
Without the administrative demands of insurance, sessions stay focused on connection, reflection, and meaningful change.

  • Clear and predictable fees
Private pay removes the uncertainty of denied claims, surprise bills, or changing coverage, so you know what to expect from the start.

Choosing private pay therapy is an investment in your well-being, and we’re honored to hold space for you in that process. If you have questions about payment, Lyra coverage, or whether private pay feels like the right fit for you, we’re always happy to talk.
